Environmental Management - ISO 14001:2004

Aegean Motorway is particularly interested and promotes continuous research in the wider environment in which it is operating and developing. Following international developments and being one of the leading Greek companies in this sector, the company has developed an integrated environmental assessment tool, taking into account business and social criteria.

The Environmental Management System of Aegean Motorway was developed in accordacme with the ISO 14001:2004 Standard and certified by the Accredited Lloyds Register QA.

The following programs and actions were taken within the framework of the Environmental Management:

  • Recycling Program

A recycling program is implemented in all facilities of the Company for all materials that result from the activities of Aegean Motorway and that may be managed under an environment-safe process.

  • Landscaping Maintenance

Aegean Motorway considers it a priority to maintain and protect trees and plants found in all surrounding areas along the Project. The Company also makes all efforts to protect them from being affected by natural causes or human intervention.

  • Organization and Operation of Motorway Cleaning Service.

Licenses have been issued by the Regions of Central Greece and Thessaly for the Collection and Transport of Non-Hazardous Solid Waste

  • Supply and Installation of Waste Bins all along the Motorway.

All Parking and Rest Areas of the Motorway feature 80-lt Rolling Domestic Waste Bins, meeting the requirements of Standard ELOT ΕΝ 840-1

  • Supply of Clean Motorway Equipment
  • Installation of Noise and Air Measurement System

Installation of Noise and Air Measurement System

Egnatia Odos has approved of the Study for the installation of a Noise and Air Pollution Control System along the Motorway by the University of Thessaly.


Monitoring of Road Traffic Noise (R.T.N.) coming from the Operation of the Road Project of PATHE, Section Maliakos – Kleidi

The Project was assigned to the Surveys Committee of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Technical School of the University of Thessaly. In the context of this Project, sampling noise measurements have been made at 61 locations, provided for by the Study for the Installation of Noise and Air Pollutants Control System.

The Technical Report and the results of the Measurements are attached to this Environmental Management Report.

  • Meteorological Stations

As part of its contractual obligations, Aegean Motorway has proceeded to the supply of 3 Meteorological Stations of Lufft company, which are installed at the following locations: Agioi Theodoroi (261+000), Aerinou (302+500) and Plaka, Litochoro (418+800).

The above data will be monitored by the Motorway Management Centre in order to contribute to better and timely decision making for safer traffic regulation.

Their installation is complete and they will be operational in April 2011.

The Environmental Management System was developed as per the requirements of Standard ISO 14001:2004 and certified by the Accredited Certification Body Lloyds Register QA.
